Any info on these older Mini Beryl parts?

Post autor: Train1 »

Hi,

These are 2 parts that were available in the US about 10 years ago through some retailers that would get nice surplus items from Poland, but never in large quantities.

These days I have a hard time finding additional info about them from Polish hobbyists/collectors,
nor do they seem to be sold by Polish sellers very often.

Were either of these 2 accessories every issued to Polish units,
or did they never go into mass production?

1. . Mini Beryl "Factory modified" 20 nb magazine

2. Onyks grip,
often seen on some Mini Beryls in the late 1990s.

I believe that quotation marks you used are spot on, AFAIK those were not factory mags and such mags were never mass produced.

Actually such grips are not Onyks ones, they were introduced with Beryl rifles. Onykses had Tantal-style (early or late) UHG/LHG.

Gotcha,

I have always heard conflicting stories about the 20 round mags...

Some folks say that they were issued to Polish paratroopers after the Mini Beryl was released-
some say that they weren't issued to the military and Law enforcement and security workers were given them-
While others say that they were closer to an experimental thing that was never issued and found their way into the surplus market when old ZML stuff was sold and auctioned off in the 2000s.

Good point,
Somewhere online I had seen pics of them on Onyks and early Mini Beryls, but after doing a quick search now,
I see mostly the plastic AK74 pattern handGuards on the onyks, just a shorter version.... Oddly enough, the true Onyks handguards are the same style that come on the Mini Beryls here stateside.

It seems as if ZM put the shortened 96A version on some Mini Beryl exports that came to the US, but I can't say that I've ever seen a Polish picture showing this configuration... Maybe to put the spare parts to use since they have no plans for them. 🤔

I'm a fan of the 96A Handguard aesthetics and ergonomic, so a miniature version just "looks" like it would have suited the Mini Beryl nicely;
but I guess that they had their reasons not to use it.

All in all,
It seems as if I may be a decade (or more) late looking for these 2 items. 😂

Frankly this 20rds mag on the pic you posted looks like a DIY rather than a factory product. The latter wouldn't have the riveted rails that hold the mag bottom plate - it would have the proper "rails" at the bottom of the mag body mold (as 30rds ones have).

Ian made a short video that shows a proper (ie military) Mini Beryl with the furniture you're looking for:

This picture...

...comes from the Small Arms Review post and, given the POPC rail and the device that sits on this rail, it just has to be Polish.

Well, re mag you can always make one yourself, the picture you posted shows enough details of the "design" :)
BTW: here you may find some more info on Beryl magazines. Yeah, it's in Polish, but online tools should be able to translate it quite OK.
